I was recently invited down to Jodhpur Indian Kitchen in Basildon, Essex to have a taste of their menu! Jodhpur Indian Kitchen has been open since August 2018 and is a very popular restaurant in the town centre. Indian food is one of my favourite meals so I was super excited!
Food events/reviewing food is one of the my specialities: I am a real foodie, if you didn’t know! And yes, I am one of those people who take pictures of their food!!!
I visited Jodhpur Indian Kitchen on a Tuesday evening and I am not exaggerating when I say, all I spoke about that day at work was how excited I was for my Indian meal!!! My dad is the biggest Indian food critic, so thought i would take him along.
The restaurant itself is really cute and quirky and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We were seated and given a menu each to glance over.
After our poppadums which was served with three signature chutneys, we decided to get two different starters to share, in order to get the best of both worlds (if you know, you know!) and more of a variety for my restaurant review. We decided to try the “Herb Chicken Tikka” (which is chicken marinated in fresh green herbs paste, cooked in tandoor, served with mix raita and chilli sauce) and the “Gilafi Seekh Kebab” (which is minced lamb with spices and peppers, cooked in tandoor, served with chilli sauce and herb chutney). I absolutely love Chicken Tikka anyway so I knew this would be a good choice but I can honestly say, it did not disappoint. As for the Gilafi Seekh Kebab, I am not always keen on lamb (as I don’t like it being too chewy) but it was cooked to perfection and was extremely tasty.
As for our mains and with their menu, they give you the option to change the spice on the majority of meals. I prefer a more mild curry than a spicy curry (like a korma or a butter chicken.. don’t laugh!!) so decided to go for the “Madras Chicken” (which is a flavourful chicken curry with roasted southern spices, served with butter naan) in the mild option and my dad decided to go for the “Madras Chicken” but in the spiciest option and we had sides of mushroom rice. I absolutely loved this: especially as it isn’t something I would normally go for. The chicken was tender and moist and was simply delicious. The sauce had a slight kick to it but it was enough for me to cope with!! I also had a “Peshwari Naan” (which I always get) and I can honestly say, this was the best Peshwari Naan I have ever had!
Our overall experience was amazing! We felt the restaurant and the food gave off a real “Indian Street Food” vibe. We had such a lovely time and enjoyed the most delicious meal. We will definitely look at going back and taking the whole family, so of course, we would highly recommend Jodhpur Indian Kitchen! The restaurant also offers a lunch time menu that looks unreal – so I would love to go back to have a taste of that menu too!
A massive thank you to Jodhpur Indian Kitchen for having us, we thoroughly enjoyed our Indian dining experience!
