So, it seems that this year, my blog has only featured food events… but I guess, this is something I am not overly fussed about as I love my food and my food events!

I was recently invited to a try a brand new restaurant at Intu Lakeside, Chiktopia.  To sum it up, it is pretty much the UK version of Chic-fil-A (which is one of my favourite restaurants in the USA).  I am a huge chicken lover anyway, I probably eat it at least once a day, every day, so when I received an email inviting me down, I could not resist!!

Eager to get a taste of Chiktopia, I quickly arranged a visit.  I was already meeting a friend, Brooke, the same week that I planned to visit (I had to plan around my very busy holiday commitments), so I decided to take her along with me and get a second opinion to my thoughts on Chiktopia!

As I work in London, we arrived to Chiktopia fairly late, which in actual fact was a bonus, this meant that we were able to speak to Garry, one of the Chiktopia managers, in depth about the food, service they provide and the new restaurant.  Garry was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful.  He talked us through each dish in lots of detail, right down to the ingredients included in each dish.  We had such a wide variety of food in front of us, we may have even tried the whole menu between us!

My favourite dish was either the “Deluxe Grilled Chicken Burger” or the “Spicy Cajun Chicken Tenders” (both dipped in the “Paradise Sauce”).  We had a variety of sauces to try which were all amazing but the Paradise Sauce was my favourite!  The Paradise Sauce is their secret recipe: so we were asked to see if we could describe the taste, which was actually quite difficult, but Brooke suggested that it tasted a little bit like Burger Sauce (which I am not usually a massive fan of), but whatever the taste, it was unbelievable!  I would definitely recommend you try this when you visit!  I also really liked the Louisiana biscuit – it was recommended that we dipped it into the Paradise Sauce but, this I was not a huge fan of!  I preferred it dipped into the “Buttermilk Sauce”!

The “Spicy Cajun Chicken Tenders” were a little spicy for me (but I can’t handle too much spice!) so the buttermilk sauce is a life saver when your mouth is on fire!  This sauce is another one of my favourites!

I also got to try the best milkshake I have ever had!  I am a huge milkshake lover anyway but tend to stick with strawberry 99% of the time, but I tried the “Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake” and it was hands down, the best milkshake I have ever had!  I also, recommend that you give this milkshake a go as you will definitely not regret it!!!

The prices at Chiktopia are very reasonable which makes it even more worth it.  The food was served extremely fast and was just delicious!  So if you are around the Lakeside area and in need of a quick meal, this is definitely the place for you, especially if you are like me and love chicken!!

I would like to say a huge thank you to Yvonne and Garry for gifting us such a lovely meal and for being so helpful and attentive throughout our Chiktopia experience.  I would also like to wish Chiktopia lots of luck as they truly deserve it for serving such fast and tasty food!

I was recently invited down to Jodhpur Indian Kitchen in Basildon, Essex to have a taste of their menu! Jodhpur Indian Kitchen has been open since August 2018 and is a very popular restaurant in the town centre.  Indian food is one of my favourite meals so I was super excited!

Food events/reviewing food is one of the my specialities: I am a real foodie, if you didn’t know!  And yes, I am one of those people who take pictures of their food!!!

I visited Jodhpur Indian Kitchen on a Tuesday evening and I am not exaggerating when I say, all I spoke about that day at work was how excited I was for my Indian meal!!! My dad is the biggest Indian food critic, so thought i would take him along.

The restaurant itself is really cute and quirky and the staff were very friendly and attentive.  We were seated and given a menu each to glance over.

After our poppadums which was served with three signature chutneys, we decided to get two different starters to share, in order to get the best of both worlds (if you know, you know!) and more of a variety for my restaurant review.  We decided to try the “Herb Chicken Tikka” (which is chicken marinated in fresh green herbs paste, cooked in tandoor, served with mix raita and chilli sauce) and the “Gilafi Seekh Kebab” (which is minced lamb with spices and peppers, cooked in tandoor, served with chilli sauce and herb chutney).  I absolutely love Chicken Tikka anyway so I knew this would be a good choice but I can honestly say, it did not disappoint.  As for the Gilafi Seekh Kebab, I am not always keen on lamb (as I don’t like it being too chewy) but it was cooked to perfection and was extremely tasty.

As for our mains and with their menu, they give you the option to change the spice on the majority of meals.  I prefer a more mild curry than a spicy curry (like a korma or a butter chicken.. don’t laugh!!) so decided to go for the “Madras Chicken” (which is a flavourful chicken curry with roasted southern spices, served with butter naan) in the mild option and my dad decided to go for the “Madras Chicken” but in the spiciest option and we had sides of mushroom rice.  I absolutely loved this: especially as it isn’t something I would normally go for.  The chicken was tender and moist and was simply delicious.  The sauce had a slight kick to it but it was enough for me to cope with!!  I also had a “Peshwari Naan” (which I always get) and I can honestly say, this was the best Peshwari Naan I have ever had!

Our overall experience was amazing!  We felt the restaurant and the food gave off a real “Indian Street Food” vibe.  We had such a lovely time and enjoyed the most delicious meal.  We will definitely look at going back and taking the whole family, so of course, we would highly recommend Jodhpur Indian Kitchen!  The restaurant also offers a lunch time menu that looks unreal – so I would love to go back to have a taste of that menu too!

A massive thank you to Jodhpur Indian Kitchen for having us, we thoroughly enjoyed our Indian dining experience!
